Sworn translations
For official purposes, translations are provided by a court-certified translator in accordance with the Law on Sworn Interpreters and Translators (Wbtv). The process involves the translation of documents with official or legal status. Such documents include deeds, evidence in legal cases, diplomas, certificates, testaments, statutes, bank guarantees and patents. The source text is attached to the translation and provided with a declaration by the sworn translator, stating that the translation is a precise and complete rendering of the source document. The declaration includes the signature and official seal of the sworn translator.
In the Netherlands, a translator is often only certified for one or two language pairs: usually, he can only provide a sworn translation from his native language into the language he has studied and vice versa (e.g. Dutch-French and French-Dutch).
